- The boy’s parents, Edward and Krystal Everett, were booked on child abuse charges
- Three other children also were found living in the home with the Everetts
- When the boy was found by police, he was covered in bruises and burn marks from getting electrocuted with the cattle prod
- The Everetts told police the injuries were self-inflicted and that the boy was possessed by a demon
- In addition to injuring himself, the Everetts claimed he often talked to himself – which is how they determined he was ‘possessed’
An Oklahoma couple was arrested last week after authorities found their 6-year-old son covered in burns and bruises and locked in a bedroom with no furniture other than an egg crate for the boy to sleep on in what the local sheriff has described as one of the worst cases of child abuse he’d ever seen.
When asked why they allegedly abused the boy, 28-year-old Edward Everett and 32-year-old Krystal Everett told authorities they believed he was possessed by a demon.
The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office says it received a call alerting them to the conditions in which the 6-year-old boy was living at the El Reno home he shared with his parents as well as three other children.
House of horrors: Authorities say the boy was found locked in a small room in this home in El Reno, Oklahoma
Everetts: The couple allegedly locked the boy a small room and only fed him once a day – all while beating and torturing him, according to authorities
The boy’s relationship to the other children found in the home is unclear.
When authorities went to the Everetts’ El Reno home, they found the young boy wearing nothing but his underwear and laying in the fetal position in the small, locked room that had no furniture other than a tiny, foam egg crate.
The person who called police said the boy was barely given food and was forced to go to the bathroom in a bucket left in the room with him.
It’s unclear how long the boy was kept in these conditions.
Sick: Authorities say Edward Everett and his wife electrocuted their 6-year-old son with a cattle prod
When rescuers found the boy they noticed large bruises on his forehead, two black eyes and several other bruises burns and sores all over his body.
When detectives asked Edward and Krystal Everett about the injuries, they said they were all self-inflicted – they claimed the boy heard voices and would often hurt himself.
Further investigation conducted by the Department of Human Services revealed that the boy was fed just one meal a day and was constantly beaten with a leather belt and electrocuted with a cattle prod.
‘This is one of the worse (sic) cases of child abuse and neglect I’ve ever seen, and it will serve to reinforce my commitment to protecting the children of Canadian County,’ Canadian County Sheriff Randall Edwards said in a press release.
Enabler: In addition to child abuse charges, Krystal Everett was charged with enabling child abuse
Each of the other children in the home were removed and placed in protective custody. The boy was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, according to OKCFox.com.
The Everetts were booked into the Canadian County Jail on charges of child abuse and child neglect. Krystal Everett also faces a charge of enabling child abuse.
